Sea Scouts

We are meeting every second and fourth Saturdays of the month at noon at KHYC in the Hood room.  From there we rig and sail our boats.  If KHYC has an event at that time, we will meet at "Sea Toy" on M dock.

Sea Scouts is an organization within the Boy Scouts of America that has a rich maritime heritage and has been serving youth for over 100 years. It is focused on providing young men and women 14-21 with fun and camaraderie on the water while they learn safety, maritime skills, teamwork, community service and leadership. Our local Sea Scout Ship (Called "Grand Explorer" or Ship 618) has been chartered/sponsored by King Harbor Yacht Club for almost 50 years.

Our ship focuses on sailing and motorboating. We learn to sail on our fleet of Cal 20’s, and as we progress in skill level, the youth learn to sail our Martin 242 and Columbia 38 (all donated by KHYC members to our program). Our more experienced Scouts act as sailing instructors, and everyone learns leadership and co-operation by sailing together as a team.  We help out KHYC where we can at various events throughout the year. We also teach merit badge classes to Scout troops and provide a “Day at Sea” to introduce younger Scouts to Sea Scouting.

We appreciate that the Holiday Parade committee and KHYC has chosen for many years to name us as one of the beneficiaries of the annual King Harbor Boat Parade.
