KHYC Radio Fleet
K6HYC
We are Ham radio enthusiasts and meet at KHYC on the first Monday of every month. Attitude adjustment is at 6:30 PM in the bar and the meeting is at 7:00 PM in the Reinhardt room. We're not only about Ham Radio but also about Marine Radio and also Technology. KHYC membership is not required to join the fleet. We host several events throughout the year and have a ham radio net each Monday afternoon at 1:30 PM. The following are some of the many services we provide to the club and to the greater community:
- Want to get a Ham license? We can help - no morse code and it's easier than you think.
- We can advise you on very low cost ($20) VHF radios.
- Problems or questions with your boat's radio? We will do our best to help.
- Sail offshore? We can help equip your boat with HF radio which will provide free long distance communication and free Email.
- We can tell you all about software defined radios and recommend inexpensive ($30) hardware.
- We set up equipment at schools in the ARISS program which allows students to talk to astronauts on the space station.
- We support Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America and the ARRL.
- We participate in the ARRL Field Day.
- We provide safety communications for several ultra marathon races.
