The Cure Cancer Cup Regatta for the Tom Collier Memorial Trophy

This regatta’s purpose is to have fun and raise funds for cancer research. The event commemorates Tom Collier, an avid yachtsman and King Harbor Yacht Club member who succumbed to cancer too early at 31 years old. Thanks to your support and to generous donations over the past 29 years, we have raised over $670,000.00 with all the proceeds going to the King Harbor Yacht Club Tom Collier Memorial Cancer Research Lab at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. H. Phillip Koeffler, Director, Hematology/Oncology Division at Cedars-Sinai. This event provides much needed funds to continue the fight to find a cure for all forms of cancer. One in three people will have at least one form of cancer in their lifetime. In time the answer for Covid 19 will be developed, but the need to fund cancer research will continue. Please find it in your heart to contribute. Your financial support helps to fund specialized researchers who are investigating ways to slow down and ultimately stop this devastating disease.

We are disappointed to announce that the 29th Annual Cure Cancer Cup Regatta for the Tom Collier Memorial Trophy race and onshore event scheduled for July 11, 2020 has been canceled. The guidelines put in place by the federal, state, and local governments and by US Sailing’s Gowrie Risk Report Covid 19 risk management and best practices for Sailing Organizations prevent us from physically hosting the event this summer.

While Covid 19 has taken over headlines, we need to continue our fight to find a cure for cancer. All of us know someone who has been touched by cancer, we continue to honor them by supporting cancer research. In this challenging year we are simply requesting monetary contributions which will continue to fund specialized researchers in our lab.
Please use the "Tom Collier Donation Request Letter (2020)" below to donate.  All donations must be mailed to KHYC.
