2019-SB-To-KH-Race-Trophies

On July 26-27, seventy-eight sailboats entered this 47thannual race, hosted by Santa Barbara Yacht Club and King Harbor Yacht Club, in Redondo Beach.
The course, of 81 nautical miles, provides great scenery, as the fleets go around Ana Capa Island, followed by a long downwind leg to the finish.Competitors from twenty-five different yacht clubs participated, and were grouped into eleven fleets, based on similar performance. Those fleets included a Cruising fleet, as well as a Multihull fleet. The fastest fleet included several 50-footers and one 100-foot yacht!  The first boat finished just after 7:00 pm on Friday, and the last boat finished just after 10:00 am on Saturday.
The first boat to finish, with the lowest elapsed time, was the Transpac 52, ‘Vesper’, skippered by David Team, from Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
The overall winner, with the lowest corrected time, was the Flying Tiger 10m, ‘A4’, skippered by Scot Tempesta, from San Diego Yacht Club.
The overall multihull [ORCA] winner, with the lowest corrected time, as well as being the first multi to finish, was ‘Wahoo’, a Schionning GF1400,skippered by Bill Gibbs, from Pierpont Bay Yacht Club.
The competitors were treated to multiple socials at the host clubs. Those included a cocktail party and barbecue at SBYC, and the awards party and traditional shrimp feed at KHYC.
